Winter boilies
So, what exactly makes a good winter boilie? We know that carp's food needs are minimal during the winter, and feeding periods are often very short. So, dumping kilos is definitely out of the question, as that would overwhelm the fish and significantly reduce the chance of a bite.
So in winter, choose a boilie that's easy to digest and won't saturate the carp too quickly. It can also be wise to use a slightly smaller diameter, such as a 15mm or even a 12mm boilie . A small boilie is an easy snack for the carp and also keeps them from becoming satiated too quickly.
A smaller boilie is picked up even more easily and is therefore recommended for the winter period.
Attraction is also crucial. As soon as the fish start feeding, you naturally want them to be the first to pick up your bait. There are several ways to make your hookbait extra attractive. Below, we'll give you three tips!
Tip #1 – Soaking hook bait
Soaking your hookbait in a bait booster for several days or even weeks makes it more noticeable than the bait you're using around it. A single hookbait approach is also a good option when fishing with pre-soaked bait.
Soaking your hookbait always provides extra attraction!
Tip #2 – Using PVA
One of the best ways to create a small, attractive feeding area around your hookbait is with a PVA stick. Crush some boilies, mix in some PVA-friendly bait booster , and voila: you have a super-attractive bait mix for your hookbait!
Tip #3 – Heat treatment
If you want to make your (hook) bait even more attractive, you can apply the so-called "heat treatment." Place your boilies in a bucket and pour boiling water over them until they are completely submerged. Put the lid on the bucket, wait 10 minutes, and then pour off the water. The outer layer of the boilies will now be much softer, allowing liquids to be absorbed more quickly.
Pour your favorite bait booster over the boilies and finish it off by sprinkling crushed boilies or a stick mix on top. Mix it all together, and voila: you have a mega-attractive winter bait!
Using KWO Specials as winter boilies?
At KWO, we're certainly not averse to a winter session, so we felt the KWO Squid Specials should also be suitable as winter boilies . This boilie range features both fishmeal and sweet attractants, appealing to a wide variety of carp. The attraction comes primarily from the fishmeal extracts and pure glucose. We've used the smallest possible sugar molecule to ensure optimal flavor evaporation. Furthermore, the boilie itself has a coarse texture, further accelerating evaporation.

Thanks to its coarse structure, the Squid Special boilie breaks down quickly and provides plenty of attraction.
The balance between fish and sweetness is carefully determined, and to give the boilie an extra sweet edge, we use a particularly powerful flavoring from the food industry. This gives the boilies a unique twist that you can smell and taste. Curious? View the entire KWO Squid Specials range on this page and give them a try in the coming months!
Good luck this coming winter!
