If there's one thing Mark Hofman doesn't want to worry about while fishing, it's using bait. Boilies shouldn't be a factor in doubt with a blank! In this article, you'll read how the KWO Squid Special was born from this vision.

Mark explains: "If you use the name 'Specials,' you have to live up to it and create something special!" After a process of several months, during which we conducted extensive testing and tried out quite a few new ingredients, we've reached that point. We've once again managed to create a unique ball packed with beautiful products for our friend, the carp ;-)
The starting point for this boilie was to combine the beneficial properties of "fish" and "sweet" in a single ball. The focus was on good flavor and the use of a wide range of attractants. After all, we want to attract a LOT of carp, and (once they've tasted the ball), they need to want to keep eating it.
The basics
We started with a base of carbohydrate- and protein-rich products that are also rich in essential dietary fiber. The base mix creates a good, coarse texture, allowing the attractants to easily leak out of the boilie . Furthermore, thanks in part to the dietary fiber, the boilie is also easily digestible for carp, allowing them to extract the necessary energy and nutrients.

To enhance the hardness and toughness of the boilie, we've used egg compound. This allows you to leave the boilies on your hair overnight with peace of mind, without worrying about small creatures nibbling on your boilie, and making supplemental feeding with the casting tube a breeze. Moreover, egg compound is incredibly rich in protein with excellent nutritional value and contains essential oils and fats for carp. The high dose of egg compound in this boilie significantly boosts its protein content and provides additional nutritional value, which will certainly benefit its long-term effectiveness.
By the way, if you are really bothered by crayfish or dwarf catfish, for example, you can of course also opt for a hard hookbait .
Fish attractors
Fishmeal boilies are simply excellent. Products from the sea fishing industry and professional fish food companies are often packed with beneficial nutrients and highly attractive to carp. However, a fishmeal boilie is easily recognizable. This can be a disadvantage, especially in heavily fished waters. Therefore, we've chosen not to use fishmeal directly, but to opt exclusively for extracts packed with fishy attractiveness.
Consider, for example, GLM & Squid Extract. These special extracts are of very high quality and contain complex proteins, complex carbohydrates, minerals, long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, enzymes, and vitamins.
The attraction lies primarily in the high nucleotide content, the building blocks of DNA in every organism and a component of essential metabolic processes in living cells. Nucleotides, along with free amino acids, are the strongest natural attractants for carp. Free amino acids are also present in high concentrations in GLM & Squid Extract. The fact that these extracts contain both nucleotides and free amino acids, and that they are highly water-soluble, makes them very popular among professional competitive anglers and, of course, thousands of carp anglers.
Liquid attractors
In addition to these powdered extracts, we also sought liquid attractants. For example, we've incorporated a substantial dose of salminol into the balls. This liquid is made from the remains of edible salmon. These are ground and then hydrolyzed. This creates a beautiful brown liquid packed with free amino acids, which are easily detected by carp.

Crème de la crème
We'll keep the crème de la crème of this boilie to ourselves for now, but you can be sure it's infused with a high dose of one of the world's leading flavors. This flavor's success goes back decades. "Flavor" isn't quite the right term; it's a complex liquid originally developed to stimulate the appetite of young koi and keep them feeding, accelerating their growth. This liquid is packed with attraction and, above all, gives the bait a wonderfully mild and pleasant flavor. The exact reason for its immense success isn't really known, but it is undeniably one of the most successful liquids ever used in carp fishing.
Sweet side
To sweeten the boilie 's flavor, we used pure glucose. This is primarily extracted from corn. It's a so-called monosaccharide, the smallest possible sugar molecule. This form of sugar makes the boilie somewhat sweeter, but more importantly, it allows the carp to extract energy directly from the bait. It's highly soluble, and the carp detects the pleasant sweetness from a distance, triggering them to seek out and eat the boilie. Supplemented with a super-sweet mix of largely natural sweeteners, these ingredients create the perfect balance between fish and sweetness in this boilie.

The ingredients mentioned above are primarily important for the flavor. But if you smell carefully, you might be able to detect the sweet attractant we've chosen. You'll recognize the scent, but pinpointing it might be more difficult. We've chosen a particularly powerful flavoring from the food industry, an addition not normally found in angling. With this aroma, we give the boilie the unique twist you smell and taste. On the one hand, we have the high-quality fishy ingredients, and on top of that, we add a unique flavor and aroma, combined with a sweet explosion.
Readymades versus freezer baits
For years, it's been crystal clear to us: Readymades perform just as well as freezers, provided the boilie's composition is correct. These boilies are preserved with MPG (Monopropylene Glycol). This is a natural agent that helps preserve the boilie and prevents mold growth. Besides acting as a natural preservative, it's also very energy-rich and provides readily available energy to the carp. This significantly increases the nutritional and energy value of the boilie.

Essentially, this preservation is actually a plus for the carp! Of course, we also find it much more convenient to simply store the boilies in the cupboard instead of in the freezer, and it's nice that you don't have to throw away or refreeze leftover boilies after a session.
